Terms of Service

Last updated: July 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using scribbrplagiarismchecker.com (“the Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Service. These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Scribbr Plagiarism Checker (“we”, “us”, “our”).

2. Description of Service

Scribbr Plagiarism Checker provides an online plagiarism detection and similarity analysis tool. The Service scans submitted text against an academic database and returns a similarity score and, on paid plans, a detailed source report. The Service is provided for informational and educational purposes only.

Important: The Service provides similarity scores as a reference tool. These scores are not a formal academic integrity determination and should not be relied upon as such. Academic integrity decisions remain the sole responsibility of the relevant educational institution.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years of age to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement and have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement.

4. User Accounts and Subscriptions

Certain features of the Service require a paid subscription. When you purchase a subscription, you agree to provide accurate billing information and to pay all applicable fees. Subscription plans, prices, and billing cycles are described on our Pricing page and in our Subscription Policy.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You must not:

  • Submit content that you do not have the right to submit, including content that infringes third-party intellectual property rights
  • Use the Service to facilitate academic fraud or to circumvent institutional integrity policies
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or systematically extract data from the Service
  • Use automated tools to submit documents or access the Service at a rate that impairs its operation
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service or its underlying systems
  • Use the Service to transmit malware, spam, or any harmful content

6. Submitted Content

You retain all ownership rights to content you submit. By submitting content, you grant us a limited, temporary licence to process the content solely for the purpose of generating your requested similarity report. This licence terminates when your session ends. We do not retain, store, or use submitted content for any other purpose.

You represent and warrant that you have the right to submit the content and that doing so does not violate any applicable law or third-party rights.

7. Intellectual Property

All elements of the Service, including but not limited to software, design, text, and graphics, are the intellectual property of Scribbr Plagiarism Checker or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our prior written consent.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that similarity scores will be accurate in all cases. Similarity detection technology has inherent limitations and may produce false positives or false negatives.

We are not affiliated with any university, school, or institutional software provider. Similarity scores generated by the Service may differ from those produced by institutional tools.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of the Service, including but not limited to academic consequences resulting from reliance on similarity scores. Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we determine you have violated these Terms or engaged in conduct harmful to the Service or other users. You may cancel your subscription at any time in accordance with our Subscription Policy.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in the applicable jurisdiction.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when the Terms were last revised. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users.
